Coupled with this unique design feature is its ability to support the entire Rimage CD & DVD Duplication product line, providing an unprecedented value proposition from small/medium to departmental enterprise customers. The Network Backup and Archive Manager is a complete backup and archival solution plus a CD & DVD duplication and publication system - all in one package!

Optical - The Clear Choice

Why use optical instead of tape for backup and archiving? Optical technology provides a random access means of writing and reading data just like magnetic disks making file retrieval much faster than tape. When you consider that today^^s applications are database driven at the record and file level, having a random access media is the only way to achieve performance. Optical media is an OPEN solution when you consider that CD & DVD-R technology is utilized in almost every computing device as a back-up method, and more importantly, as an archive medium. This method greatly reduces the risk of not being able to read the data at critical times in the future.

Every tape format is proprietary couple with the fact the tape drives and media are very expensive as such are not as pervasive as optical technology, hence, tape users must insure compatibility of all of their systems to write and read a specific data format. This is sometimes impossible when exporting or distributing data outside a user^^s environment. Optical, on the other hand, guarantees that any user will have a CD or DVD drive available to read the media.

Optical technology is a true WORM (Write One, Read Many) recording medium, while tape is not. With growing requirements for multi-year data retention periods, and growing regulatory and compliancy requirements for unalterable, non-erasable storage capabilities, only optical technology can meet these needs.
